Beta Alpha Psi
Congratulations to our New Members!
Kappa Sigma chapter in the News & the Community
Our chapter's awarding of "Superior Status" once again this year is being lauded in the press. See the article here.
BAP Scholarship Fundraising - Hillary Q Kind '09
There is a new scholarship being launched in memory of one of our chapter members, Hillary Kind, who graduated in 2009 and was a staff member at EY in Detroit.
Hillary battled melanoma cancer and participated in the Stand Up 2 Cancer campaign in this video.
The new"EY Hillary Q Kind Memorial Scholarship" will be awarded to a UM-Dearborn accounting major, with preference given to a BAP member. Our chapter is interested in supporting the fundraising efforts for this scholarship so that it can be a permanent, endowed scholarship at UMD. Let the officers know your thoughts.
Professional speaker events & Chapter meetings
Last event of 2013 will be the Holiday Bash on Friday, Dec. 6th with the Wayne State University chapter of BAP. Remember to bring back the holiday gifts for the Sponsored Foster Children ("adopt-a-child"). It's "Ugly Sweater" time! Come on out to Dining Room D at 6pm to say good bye to the 2013 in 'style.'
First event in 2014 will be the VITA tax-preparers training on campus: Friday, January 10th from 1-6pm. See Mariah Mallet for more info [firstname.lastname@example.org.]
There is no chapter meeting following the VITA training on the 10th, however, there will probably be a social gathering afterward.
First chapter meeting of 2014 will be Friday, January 24th. Best Practices teams will be meeting in January.
Future chapter meetings: February 7, March 7 and 21, and April 11.
Midwest Regional Meeting & Competition: March 28-29 in Indianapolis, IN. Theme: Leading at the Crossroads. Meeting is from 1pm Friday through 3:30pm Saturday. Early bird registration through Feb. 28 is only $85 (the amount the chapter will reimburse members.) Affiliates will be eligible to participate once they become full members.
Volunteer Service Events
Thanks to everyone who came out and taught a class for the annual Junior Achievement day at Malcolm X Academy. It was a great time and quite a learning experience for us, too!
On behalf of the Mercy Education Project in Detroit, thanks to all of our members and the members from EMU and Wayne State who came out to the bowling fundraiser on Saturday.
Last service event of the year is the sponsoring of foster kids for the holidays, so if you are shopping for gifts for a foster child (& if you're paired up with a member to do this), please return all of the unwrapped gifts at the Holiday Bash on Dec. 6th (or earlier if you won't be attending on the 6th.) Keep your receipts to submit to the Treasurer for reimbursement.
2014 Service will primarily focus on Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) in the 4-county metro Detroit region. Invite your friends to come to training on Friday, Jan. 10th -- it's open to all UMD students who would like to help the community in this valuable way. Urgent: the Accounting Aid Society is expecting a shortfall of volunteers this year, so we can really help!
More EIC Adopt-a-Site events will be coming in the Spring, as well as the Vista Maria annual fundraiser dinner at the beginning of May.
Beta Alpha Psi is an honor society for accounting, finance, and ITM majors. We strive to provide our members with experiences that allow them to connect with business professionals, students, alumni, and the community. Learn more here on our site under the "How to Join" and "About" pages.
If you have already declared your major and want to learn more about becoming a member, contact Jesus Madrigal (email@example.com) to get started. New candidates for membership beginning in the winter term may begin attending chapter meetings in January 2014.
Pre-business students are encouraged to join our organization as affiliates! Our affiliate program offers students to get a taste of what Beta Alpha Psi can offer them as future members. For more information on becoming an affiliate, contact Mike Deiotte (firstname.lastname@example.org).
If you need to be reimbursed for anything Beta Alpha Psi related, please select the above link for a reimbursement form.
Please turn the form in to Vincent Carozza or place it in the BAP mailbox located in Quad A.
